Post-Doc

A postdoctoral position is available to work on inner ear hair cell regeneration for functional recovery from deafness using stem cells, animal models, and siRNA approaches.

Our Laboratory is particularly interested in the following questions: 1). What are the mechanisms required for mature mammalian hair cell regeneration? 2). What are the mechanisms underlying chick and zebrafish hair cell regeneration? 3). What is the origin of inner ear stem cells? 4). What are the molecular markers and their function in the inner ear stem cells and progenitor cells, and how to manipulate them for regeneration? Our laboratory uses a wide range of state-of-the-art approaches in our work, including microarray analysis of gene expression, cloning the genes of interest, stem cell biology, RNAi technology and transgenic animal models (mouse, chick and zebrafish). The position presents a unique and exciting opportunity for candidate interested in using stem cell biology, molecular, cellular, and animal models to study inner ear cell regeneration and the potential for functional recovery from deafness. The laboratory is part of Eaton Peabody Laboratory at the MEEI, which provides an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment in all aspects of hearing research. The laboratory is also affiliated with the Harvard Stem Cell Institute and Massachusetts General Hospital-Harvard Medical School Center for Nervous System Repair. A successful candidate (Ph.D, M.D/Ph.D or MD) should have a strong background in areas including stem cell biology and/or neuroscience, genetics, molecular and cell biology and use of animal model.
